The Spaghetti Epic 2 has been released:
What was the link between Progressive rock and "Once Upon A Time In The West" ? Probably none, until the French label Musea and the Finnish fanzine Colossus came to release "The Spaghetti Epic - Six Modern Prog Bands For Six Seventies Prog Suites". As indicated by its name, this double-album musically revisits Sergio LEONE's famous cinema masterpiece that highlighted the so-called spaghetti-western. Moreover, the booklet is a work of art in itself, including a documented story of the movie, a summary of it, photographs, the storyboard, etc. So six bands of the current Progressive rock scene each composed a 20-25 minute long epic. Thus they followed Sergio LEONE's regular composer Ennio MORRICONE's concept, creating one mucical theme for each of the main characters. Then HAIKARA (Finland), Nicola RANDONE (Italy), TILION (Italy), LA VOCE DEL VENTO (British band created on this occasion by the duo of PARALLEL OR 90 DEGREES and THE TANGENT, Guy MANNING & Andy TILLISON.), TAPROBAN (Italy) and TRION (The Netherlands) appear on the menu of this "dance with death", according to the director's words. Some echoes, sounds and themes of the original film are present, but these are indeed new creations, revisiting every genre of the Seventies Progressive rock with class, from mini-symphony to daring experimentations. Keyboards sounds keep faithful to the spirit and the letter of the Golden Age. Obviously, the contribution of the leading lights of the genre, mostly Italian musicians (BANCO DEL MUTUO SOCCORSO, PREMIATA FORNERIA MARCONI, LE ORME...), are not forgotten. This second collective work takes further the success of the brilliant "Kalevala - A Finnish Progressive Rock Epic" (2003), which was a triple concept-album to which thirty groups had taken part with enthusiasm ! Taste it "al dente"... The synopsis of the second volume "The Good, The Bad And The Ugly" (2007) says it all: Nicola RANDONE is the Good, LA VOCE DEL VENTO is the Bad, and TILION is the Ugly. Everyone has 25 minutes to express his dominance. What else would you expect but an all-Italian cast, for such a treasure of the western-spaghetti genre ? Sure, but... Behind LA VOCE DEL VENTO hide two strange characters known under the names Andreas TILLISONI and Guy De M'ANNINGI. Do you recognize them ? They are our old friends of the British band PARALLEL OR 90 DEGREES of course ! Their intentions don't seem to be that good, so you'd better prepare for the fight... Colts will talk soon !
